| Day Seven
Well, we got a good night's sleep in our own bed last night. We slept in, but I was thinking while I drank my coffee this morning I would finish up Day 7. It seems my server is acting weird, and I can't view any of the work. I can't even pull up some of the other days picture, but I know they are there since I have seen them (Friday) and I haven't messed with them since. So, I am going to try to figure out this little issue, and at some point soon all the pictures will be on.
Well I wrote that this morning, and it's 2:45 PM now. I am gonna recap yesterday with a sweet smile on my face, because that's what you, our dedicated pals deserve! I mean, you're here, you're reading, so you must WANT Day 7 right?
We left Vermont fairly early, like 7:00 AM, because we had a big driving day, and we wanted to be able to stop and take time to do stuff along the way.
It was foggy, or rather cloudy (low lying clouds) when we left Vermont. We had planned to stop and buy some more cheese to bring home to folks on our way out of town, but we couldn't find anything open. Vermonters seem to go to bed early, and rise at reasonable times, by our calculations. Unfortunately, we left prior to a "reasonable time" so we couldn't find a place to get some cheese for the family back home. Sorry guys... I have catalogs and web adresses of some awesome places though!
We drove to Lake George and through Adirondack Park in the morning. Lake George has a weird little park called Magic Forest. We had no intention of spending time there, but I knew we could see some awesome Big Things from the parking lot. The place wasn't open yet, so we had the lot to ourselves. We loved the detailed Muffler Man, Uncle Sam, and Santa. Riah wished the place had been open so we could have found the other Muffler Men and tacky fiberglass animals in the forest. But, we had to move down the road.
I haven't mentioned Green Mountain Coffee until now. Well, I enjoyed it. It's a local company and it is served throughout New England in many places. In some hotels we had it in the in room coffee makers. It was always on the breakfast buffets, and even McDonald's new cold coffee was Green Mountain. So, in Lake George, I got a final Green Mountain coffee, knowing it would probably be my last one this trip. Sure enough, after Lake George, we never saw it advertised again. It's good coffee, try it if you like coffee and are in New England. It shouldn't be too hard to find... it's everywhere!
Adirondack Park is huge. It encompasses much of upstate New York. There are towns and services within it, but we drove on a quiet two lane and seldom passed cars. In fact, of the nearly 600 miles we drove yesterday, all but about 50 of it was on two lane roads, on purpose. We have discovered that not only are the two lanes of New York prettier, the roads are often in better shape than the interstates.
When we reached Rome, Ny., we stopped at Fort Stanwix National Monument. There was lots to explore in the fort, and the Visitor's Center had some neat interactive exhibits. The best past of Fort Stanwix was the drawbridge. we liked seeing the track that allowed them to pull it up for protection. It made us think of castles and such.
Near Rome we passed over the Erie Canal, and yes, of course we did sing the song! If you have it going through your head right now and can only remember the "Low bridge, everybody down!" part, here's a link to the words to help you out. It's a link to the Erie Canal Village. We wished we had the time to stop there, but we had to keep driving.
We were on two lanes most all day as I mentioned, and that route took us along the top of some of the Finger Lakes. There are some real cute little towns near there, and we also found some water falls and such as we drove.
Our last major stop of the trip was Women's Rights National Historic Site in Senecca Falls. Here in 1848 in a Weslyn Chapel, women and men gathered to hold the first women's rights convention. The site was very interesting, and even Riah found the museum fun. I thought he might be bored there, but he actually said, "Mom this is a cool place!" Of course, anywhere he can push buttons and read things tends to be cool for him these days! One exhibit allowed me to pose as a park ranger, and Riah as president. He really liked being in that role!
Well, we got home late last night and as of 3:00 today, we are still dealing with an issue with our server. The trip was great, but it's nice to be home. Of all the places I would think I might have trouble posting the webpage, home was my last thought. Our server is having major issues with my links, so if you can see the pictures and the links work, cool. If not, be patient, eventually they will deal with it for me. I write my own code, and it is not in my script, it is something on their end. It is out of our hands, so we too have to be patient.
Thanks for checking in with us! We all had a blast and love having people we care about follow along each day! Sign that guestbook if you haven't yet folks!!! I will post the pictures as soon as I can, and once more I apologise for any linkage issues you may experience within our site. Some people are seeing the links, some aren't. We can only wait for them to deal with it now!
Take care,
p, w & r

The big suitcase we have had for years finally died yesterday. The zipper fell off and we had to "break" into it! It will be missed, but life goes on. It lasted for a long time!
